U10 Grassroots
Posted Apr 24, 2017

Our U10 Grassroots program is the next step in the young players development. This age the teams will have one practice per week with their team and with a dedicated coach in addition to the games. There is a heavy focus on individual skill development and encouragement to use the new skills during the games.

Fall, Winter & Spring Programs:
Our U10 Fall, Winter, and Spring programs are for players’ ages 8 and 9 years old. Players’ use a size 4 ball and games are 2 x 25-minute halves. There will also be an additional practice each week at an ASD location. These programs are coed for the indoor seasons.

The games will follow USSF Player Development Initiative and play 7v7. USSF website PDI

Summer Programs:
Our U10 Summer program is for players’ aged 8 and 9 years old. Players use a size 4 ball and games are 2 x 25-minute halves. During the summer each team will have one practice and two games per week. The coach will determine the location and times of the practices.

This program is gender specific in the summer, so we will have boys and girls teams! Games are played in the evenings at Anchorage Gardens on Monday through Thursday at either 6:00, 7:00 or 8:00PM.

All U10 teams will play in the end of the Summer season tournament, the 2018 CISC Cup.  Tournament games will be played in the evenings at the end of the Summer season TBD.

The games will follow USSF Player Development Initiative and play 7v7. USSF website PDI

Here are some typical characteristics of the Under 10 player:

  • Lengthened attention span - they are still in motion, but not as busy, only holding still long enough for a short explanation
  • More inclined toward wanting to play rather than being told to play
  • Psychologically becoming slightly more firm and confident
  • Some are becoming serious about their play
  • Team oriented – prefer team type balls and equipment. Enjoy the uniforms and team association.
  • Boys and girls beginning to develop separately
  • Developing the pace factor – thinking ahead
  • Gross and small motor skills becoming much more refined

Volunteer Coaches:
Our Grassroots soccer program offers the opportunity for those interested in coaching to volunteer to become a coach. All volunteer coaches receive credit for their child’s participation in the Grassroots program for the team they coach.

Before each season we will have a Coaches Clinic and all of our volunteer coaches are given age appropriate materials and training so that they can offer quality-training sessions to their teams. If you wish to volunteer please register below.
